When a sex toy costs more than a motorcycle….

thanks Roberto for sending me this link two weeks ago; I’ve only now had time to catch up on email. It’s a Q&A with a designer who makes expensive sex toys and emphasizes the importance of celebrity bragging rights:

High-end sex toy design by Shiri Zinn

One quote in particular struck a chord with me:

I think if a design is good, you can go all the way. You can move boundaries because it’s all about how you design an object. It is not about avoiding what the object is or trying to make it acceptable for respectable consumption.

That’s how I feel about Sex Drive too. Not that it makes any design sense, but we shouldn’t have to shy away from sex or pretend that sex isn’t an important factor in our lives (by its presence or absence), or that respectable people don’t have sex. We even call it “sexuality” to sound more respectable, but really, why not embrace the humble with the same respect?
