Report: Australian businesses love the cloud, but AI threats lurk
Palo Alto State of Cloud Native Security Report 2024 reveals that Australia is a global leader in cloud adoption and investment.
Palo Alto has launched its State of Cloud Native Security Report 2024and data shows that while Australia remains committed to cloud adoption, many see AI-driven threats as a serious concern.
Of the 10 countries surveyed (United States, Denmark, France, United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Singapore, India and Japan), Australia and Singapore lead the pack in investment in AI, while countries such as Japan and India prefer investments in the subsoil. -$10 million range.
Australia and Singapore also take the lead when it comes to cloud leadership and maturity. Twenty-six percent of Australian and Singaporean organizations now have fully cloud-native environments, and 24 percent in the United States. This compares to companies like Germany and France, with adoption of 14 and 17 percent, respectively.
However, it is not all good news.
Legacy applications remain a critical anchor in cloud adoption: only 26 percent of organizations in the APJ region spend more than 30 percent of their total cloud spend on adapting legacy applications. This, according to Palo Alto, shows the importance of proper planning to address the security and compliance issues posed by legacy applications.
There are also too many cloud tools: 91 percent of all organizations surveyed said they feel the blind spots created by the proliferation of cloud tools are a serious challenge. On average, organizations use “16 tools from 14 different vendors.”
However, AI threats are perceived as an imminent problem. Forty-three percent of security professionals predict that traditional security tools will not be up to the challenge of detecting AI-powered attacks. Forty-seven percent fear the impact of attacks on their supply chains from these types of attacks, but on the other hand, 100 percent of organizations are investing in the development of AI applications.
“The report’s findings underscore Australia’s leadership in cloud adoption and investment, demonstrating our region’s commitment to advancing cloud-native technologies,” Steve Manley, vice president for Australia and Australia, said in a statement. Palo Alto Networks New Zealand.
“However, this progress also highlights the critical need to modernize legacy applications and implement robust AI-powered threat mitigation strategies. As cloud-native environments continue to mature, Australian businesses must navigate the complexities of cloud security to fully realize the benefits of cloud computing. Importantly, they can prioritize security without slowing down development or adoption. In the current environment, with an ever-evolving threat landscape, Australian businesses must prioritize these security measures to ensure their cloud investments are supported by a secure and resilient foundation.”
