Report: A Staggering 92% of All Enterprise Endpoints Are Unprepared for Modern AI Applications
Absolute’s 2024 Cyber Resilience Risk Index finds that organizations are woefully unprepared to face the “AI wave.”
A new report from cybersecurity firm Absolute has found that the vast majority of organizations around the world are woefully ill-prepared to take on artificial intelligence (AI) applications and the security risks they pose.
According to the Absolute Security 2024 Cyber Resilience Risk Index, ninety-two percent of all endpoints the enterprise monitors (i.e. PCs) are not capable of leveraging AI applications due to limitations in Installed RAM. Any company that wants to prepare its entire fleet of systems for AI will need to undertake a significant upgrade process across the organization, which, in turn, could lead to a number of security threats.
At the same time, as organizations may need to upgrade their hardware, they are also falling behind in patching the critical systems they currently have. Even though patches will be available sooner than ever, most industries are weeks or even months behind when it comes to patching systems.
The two worst sectors in this regard are education and government organizations, which take, on average, 119 and 82 days, respectively, to apply critical patches.
Most alarming is that 14 percent of devices do not have any type of endpoint protection installed, and even when endpoint protection is present, it does not work effectively on 24 percent of devices.
Christy Wyatt, CEO of Absolute Security, said simpler defensive strategies are being ignored.
“As an industry, we are intensely focused on the inevitable attack ahead, the breach waiting to occur, and the disruption just around the corner. There is not enough attention paid to simple strategies that can dramatically increase your resilience to ensure that you remain resilient to vulnerabilities and can recover quickly. “The stakes continue to rise as we face the urgent need to embrace AI and other innovations to remain competitive,” Wyatt said in a statement.
“Cyber resilience is a paradigm that extends beyond traditional cybersecurity. “It is about ensuring that your digital operations, which are the heart of your organization, can withstand and recover quickly from cyberattacks, technical failures, deliberate manipulations and new implementations.”
