The cybersecurity company hosted a free cybersecurity workshop for families and children over the weekend.

Cyber security company Palo Alto Networks hosted its first Cyber Safe Kids family workshop in Sydney over the weekend, inviting families and their children to learn about the importance of personal cyber security.

The free workshops, hosted by Michelle Yao and Nina Bual, co-founders of online safety organization Cyberlite, welcomed parents and children aged seven to 12 and covered key safety areas such as how to identify and avoid phishing, tackling cyberbullying, and the importance of online privacy and strong passwords.

“Everyone should have the skills necessary to thrive in our increasingly digital world while staying safe,” Lisa Sim, vice president of JAPAC marketing at Palo Alto Networks, said in a statement.

“By equipping the next generation with the tools to navigate the digital world with confidence and security, we can collectively foster a safer digital environment for all.”

World snowboard champion and Olympic medalist Scotty James also attended the event and shared his experiences with cybersecurity in his role as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

“Like most athletes, I use social media to connect with my fans around the world. When I’m competing on tour, it’s a great way to stay in touch with my family and friends,” James said.

“It is very important that we help people, especially children, understand that social media also has its challenges. By educating children about online safety, we can teach them the skills to be confident and secure when using it.”
