New Ninja Gaiden game on the way from Blasphemous Devs

A new Ninja Gaiden game, subtitled Ragebound, was announced at The Game Awards. It is a classic side-scrolling action game, developed by the studio Blasphemous The Game Kitchen in association with Koei Tecmo. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will be published by Dotemu and is scheduled for release in summer 2025.

Ragebound will be the first new game in the Ninja Gaiden series in over a decade, and the game’s Steam page calls it a “new spin” on the classic series. “Ninja Gaiden: Enraged successfully unites the classic story and gameplay of Ninja Gaiden developed by Tecmo. series from the 8-bit era with the depth and intensity of modern 3D entries,” the description reads.

As seen in the trailer that debuted at The Game Awards, veteran Ninja Gaiden protagonist Ryu Hayabusa will be involved in the new title, but a new character known as Kenji Mozu will take his place as the main character. After Ryu leaves for America, Kenji has to step up to face the horde of demons that has been unleashed on Hayabusa Village.

Ragebound promises nuanced side-scrolling action mixed with lush pixel art, something The Game Kitchen has already proven it can do with the acclaimed Blasphemous and Blasphemous 2. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC in summer 2025.
