Lucy Fidock wins this year’s ESET Women in Cyber ​​Security Scholarship

A University of Adelaide student takes home a prized scholarship with support from the Minister of Home Affairs and Cyber ​​Security.

A University of Adelaide student has been announced as the winner of the ESET Women in Cyber ​​Security Scholarship 2024.

Lucy Fidock won the scholarship in her third year in Australia and second with the active support of Home Affairs and Cyber ​​Security Minister Clare O’Neil.

Fidock is studying a bachelor’s degree in computer science (advanced) and already has a strong background in cybersecurity. After completing his high school work experience at a cybersecurity company, Fidock followed his passion by participating in capture-the-flag exercises and security training programs. He currently focuses his research on malware detection and evasion.

“We are delighted to announce Lucy Fidock as the winner of the ESET Women in Cyber ​​Security Scholarship 2024,” Parvinder Walia, president of Asia-Pacific and Japan at ESET, said in a statement.

“Driven by ambition and passion for cybersecurity, we are confident that she will contribute significantly to making Australia and the world a safer place. This scholarship is a testament to our commitment to fostering talent and diversity in the field of cybersecurity. “We are incredibly honored to partner with Minister Clare O’Neil for the second consecutive year and look forward to continuing this valuable partnership to develop the next generation of cybersecurity leaders.”

According to Minister O’Neil, Australia needs to continue “investing in the people who will defend Australians and our assets from this massive and growing threat”.

“The percentage of women in cybersecurity is growing and initiatives such as ESET scholarships complement the work the government is doing to support this influx of women,” she stated.
