yes the mountain He won’t come to Woz, Woz will go to the mountain.
Legendary Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, now a wireless entrepreneur, is moving out of his multimillion-dollar home (a fun house he built for his kids) because it’s in the middle of a wireless black spot.
Woz, as he likes to be called, plans to move into a nearby mansion he owns that has been more or less empty for many years, except for the giant parties he has thrown there.
Woz’s fun house looks like the famous Winchester Mystery House, with lots of hallways, secret doors, peepholes, fire posts, and children’s doors everywhere.
The house has a replica of the castle, inside the house. It also features a volcano, a cave in the backyard, and a bedroom covered in thousands of LEDs that emit luminescent patterns on the ceiling and walls.
“It’s great for the kids,” Woz said.
Woz said he designed the house for his six children, all but one of whom have since left home. His youngest son is a sophomore in high school. Woz has lived in the house on Santa Rosa Road in Los Gatos since 1986.
“It’s a real riot,” said Alex Fielding, a friend of Woz’s who visited the house several times. “It’s a cool, fun house. Or a good, fun house.”
Unfortunately, the house has no cell phone signal.
“It’s in a weird corner,” Woz explained recently. “There is no GSM coverage. I need it, so I’m moving.”
After many years as a part-time volunteer teacher at a local elementary school, Woz returned to the technology industry in 2001 as founder and CEO of Wheels of Zeus (or WOZ, get it?), a wireless device startup that promises to “help everyday people find everyday things.”
The company has not yet revealed information about its products, but, like Woz, they presumably require GSM.
Woz is also on the board of Danger, another startup that makes the Hiptop PDA cell phone.
In March, Woz said he will move into his new digs on Blackberry Hill Road, a couple of miles from his current residence, after having some work done around the house.
Ironically, the seven-bedroom house is undergoing extensive rewiring. All the walls have been torn out to add high speed internet, phone and video cables to connect all your computers, phones and several large screen plasma televisions.
