Home and business security provider ADT customer information leaked
US provider of physical security for homes and businesses, ADT, has confirmed that hackers obtained a “limited” amount of customer information, according to a recent filing with the SEC.
Physical security provider ADT has confirmed that unauthorized actors gained access to customer information, obtaining email addresses, phone numbers and mailing addresses, in a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The confirmation came as two users, netnsher and grimoire, claimed responsibility for the attack on BreachedForums, claiming to have exposed “over 30,812 records, including 30,400 unique emails.”
The threat actors also claimed to have information about products purchased by users.
According to the document, the company does not believe that home security systems have been compromised or that unauthorized users have gained access to customers’ financial information.
“After becoming aware of the incident, the company quickly took action to shut down unauthorized access and launched an investigation, partnering with industry-leading third-party cybersecurity experts. However, the attackers obtained limited customer information, including email addresses, phone numbers, and postal addresses,” the company said.
“Based on its investigation to date, the company has no reason to believe that customers’ home security systems were compromised during this incident. Additionally, the company has no reason to believe that the attackers obtained other sensitive personal information, such as credit card data or banking information.
“The company continues its investigation into this cybersecurity incident and has notified customers it believes have been affected, who represent a small percentage of the company’s overall subscriber base.”
