In a recent interview with Masanori Tanaka, chairman of Randnet’s board of directors, he said the company is planning a downloadable game service for the NES through the Nintendo 64 64DD add-on peripheral. According to Randnet DD, it has already finished building the emulator needed to play NES games on the N64 console system, and services will begin as soon as licensing with other companies is completed. The service will allow players to download games for a few hundred yen (about $1).
This follows Sega’s recent announcement that it will allow players to download Sega Genesis and NEC Turbo Grafx 16 games on the Dreamcast console. Randnet DD service and 64DD are currently only available in Japan.
