Bitdefender launches free anti-scam chatbot on web and Messenger
The Scamio service will offer a “second opinion” on fraudulent messages on any device.
Romanian cybersecurity company Bitdefender has launched a platform-agnostic anti-scam tool called Scamio.
Scamio, which is free, runs in any web browser or within Facebook Messenger and offers a chatbot powered by natural language processing to act as a “strong second opinion” on fraudulent messages.
The tool can analyze emails, text messages, links and QR codes; a user posts any questionable content into the chatbot and describes how it was received, and Scamio issues a verdict moments later.
According to Bitdefender, Scamio combines artificial intelligence (AI) with its own threat detection and protection technology, making it capable of detecting even complex social engineering techniques.
Being browser-based, Scamio can run on any device that supports a browser and on any operating system.
“The rapid rise in adoption of AI by cybercriminals to trick people out of money, steal personal information and infiltrate their digital lives has become a true tipping point,” said Ciprian Istrate, Senior Vice President of operations, Bitdefender’s consumer solutions group, said in a statement.
“Online scams that were once easy to spot have become difficult to spot with the naked eye. Scamio levels the playing field by providing a reliable probability of malicious activity based on the content and context of the message. It’s like having a personal assistant that you can always talk to and trust to help you protect your digital life.”
While free to use, Scamio requires registration and account setup. It is also likely to come to WhatsApp and Telegram in the future.
