ZBD, a payment platform powered by the Bitcoin Lightning network, said the Dutch Authority for Financial Markets (AFM) approved its application for a MiCA license from the European Union.
When MiCA comes into effect and the license is granted on December 30, ZBD will be able to offer a wide range of cryptocurrency exchange and custody services across the trading block, the company, formerly known as Zebedee, told CoinDesk on Wednesday.
The company first filed the application in April. The list of applicants who will receive a license will be visible on the AFM website once MiCA becomes operational, the regulator said.
Countries like the Netherlands are among the EU nations that have been preparing companies for MiCA to come into force in full force. Many others have yet to pass the legislation necessary for MiCA to come into force in their jurisdictions.
