Indigenous Australian cyber company joins cyber security firm Infoblox to create “Australia-first” anti-fraud capability.

Indigenous cybersecurity company Baidam has announced it has partnered with US-based Infoblox to launch Baidam Takedown Services, a pioneering service in Australia designed to take down fraudulent websites.

Websites impersonating major brands or government agencies are a key part of many financial scams.

Baidam Takedown Services will use the domain name system to take down such sites within a week and will operate from the company’s Gundan Security Operations Center in Brisbane.

Jack Reis (pictured), chief executive of Baidam, said while scams are a threat to any organisation, regional and indigenous businesses are particularly vulnerable.

“There are parts of Australia where the internet is very new or not yet available,” Reis said in a statement.

“It is one of the most important resources we can bring to the field, but a lack of experience and education about cybersecurity and online scams can leave Indigenous people and businesses more vulnerable.

“Together with Infoblox, we are committed to helping organizations across Australia maintain a secure and trusted online presence and quickly mitigate the impact of fraudulent or similar websites.”

Scott Morris, managing director of Infoblox Australia and New Zealand, said being a victim of a scam can often lead to further malicious acts at a later date.

“We are seeing internet fraud playing a more prominent role in how cybercriminals infiltrate organizations in Australia,” Mr Morris said.

“Our removal service helps businesses neutralize fraudulent domains that are impersonating them for criminal activities. While blocking malicious domains should be a priority for all users, this removal service allows businesses to be proactive in defending their good name and their customers. “We are incredibly proud to work alongside Baidam as one of the country’s most trusted cybersecurity providers to reduce these risks.”

Organizations wishing to use Baidam’s service can learn more here and also purchase preventative removal packages to deal with fraudulent websites in the future.
