AusCERT changes name and appoints new CEO

Dr Ivano Bongiovanni has been appointed as the new CEO of Australia’s Computer Emergency Response Team.

AusCERT has announced the appointment of a new CEO and its intention to unveil a newly redesigned website and logo later this month.

Dr. Ivano Bongiovanni takes up the position after a career in law enforcement, having been a police officer in the Italian Ministry of the Interior and serving as deputy security manager for the Turin 2006 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games venues. .

He also has a PhD in risk management, focusing on international airports.

“I am delighted to assist AusCERT at a critical time in its history as the NFP works to strengthen our national security, playing an even more crucial role than ever,” Bongiovanni said in a statement.

“I am excited to meet with our members and potential future members to learn more about how we can help them meet the challenges of a growing threat environment with unprecedented attack speed.

“As one of the oldest CERTs in the world, AusCERT has a strong tradition of helping public and private sector organizations meet their cybersecurity KPIs. After 30 years, the organization takes the step into a new area. This will require us to rethink how we do things, partnering closely with our members to help them understand where their vulnerabilities are and how we can help address them, and never stop innovating.”

AusCERT Director Dr David Stockdale is pleased with the new hire.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Bongiovanni to the team,” said Stockdale.

“Their training and experience are key to guiding us into the future and partnering closely with our members to make a positive difference to their organizations in the battle against cybercrime.”

AusCERT has also said it is launching a rebranding campaign to enhance “its position as a trusted industry ally”. This includes a redesigned logo and new website design, with member services divided into key areas such as vulnerability support, incident support and training.

The new site functionality will be implemented throughout 2024.
